Top Ten Tuesday #1

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is my Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020.

So narrowing this list down to only ten books was quite the challenge because there are SO. MANY. GOOD. books coming out later this year! Publishers aren’t fools – the two book release times each year are in the spring to get the Mother’s Day/Father’s Day/Graduation/Vacation sales and in the autumn to get the holiday sales.

On to my most eagerly anticipated book releases this year.

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

Last year, I read Gideon the Ninth, the first book in this series, and LOVED it. So I’m crazy excited for the sequel. Necromancers, decaying space empires, unreliable narrator – yes, please!

Edited By by Ellen Datlow

I’ve been reading and loving anthologies edited by Ellen Datlow for decades. This gorgeous edition has me in the absolute throes of book lust.

Archive of the Forgotten by AJ Hackwith

This series is my exact book catnip! Vast library – check. Full of unwritten books – check. Hell – check. Angels – check. Other mythologies – check. Last year, I devoured the first book, The Library of the Unwritten. I’m looking forward to the sequel impatiently.

Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles

A competition for magicians in an isolated city. An enchanted circus. Mysterious murders. Girl power. I’m totally there for it. This sounds decadent and lush.

Well Played by Jen DeLuca

A romcom with kilted musicians and Faire wenches sounds like the perfect frothy read.

Utopia Avenue by David Mitchell

David Mitchell has a gift for writing dreamily odd yet wonderful books like The Cloud Atlas and Bone Clocks so I’m quite keen to see what he does with a book about a trippy British psychedelic band.

How to Catch a Queen by AlyssaCole

Loved Alyssa Cole’s Reluctant Royals series which if you haven’t read them, do it! Fun, contemporary romances full of witty banter and steam. I’m excited to start her new Runaway Royals series with How to Catch a Queen.

A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik

A Deadly Education is the first book in Naomi Novik’s new series, Scholomance. It’s set at a secret school to teach kids how to use their magic. The problem is that it also kills a fair number in the process. El needs to find allies so they can survive long enough to graduate.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab

VE (Victoria) Schwab writes big beautiful books full of intense world building and complex plots. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue seems like it’s going to be a bit different but still fabulous. What happens when you make a bargain with the Darkness for immortality but the twist is that no one remembers you. Not your friends or family. No one. How do you leave your mark on the world?

The Once and Future Witches by Alix Harrow

Alix Harrow’s debut, The Thousand Doors of January was incandescently brilliant so I have incredibly high hopes for her second book The Once and Future Witches. Witches and suffragettes! That seems like such an obvious pairing now that she’s written it. I can’t wait to read it!
